That actually goes for all non-conventional builds. Take a look at the rune prices for the unpopular attributes.
Monks are special for another reason: the 55 monks need extra superior runes to get their health down to 55. That's why even smiting runes are expensive, even though we see very few smiters around.

Oh, I know.. but even then, when you look at any other class, you'll see a bunch of cheap runes and a few really expensive ones (see: elementalists... everything's sub-500, and then sup fire is sitting at 5k).
Not mesmers, baby.
If only skills could scale this way, and I didn't have to pay out a plat every time I want to buy another.

I can get into PuGs... It's not overly difficult.

Tbh, if I'm playing a mesmer and I can't get into a PuG when I know my build will be effective, I don't really want to be in that PuG anyways. Sometimes it's better to hold out for a good, communicative PuG then to just settle in an effort to rush through.

Oh, absolutely.
That, or I start my own.
And, no, it's not impossible to find a group - the situation definitely isn't THAT dire, however much noise the forums make. I actually find the total unpopularity of mesmers helpful in this regard... there's plenty of players who know what mezzies are capable of, and since there's so few of us, there's not much by way of competition.

I normally end up starting my own and try to sound as intelligent and allknowing as possible
And I normally end up owning a lot
Mesmer is a hell of a lot of fun to play in pve and pvp
So much choice when it comes to builds

Well, anyone who doesn't have a mesmer in their group, is missing out. :. But I've always found that PuGs are easy toget into, the hard thing is actually being searched for.. >>; Noone shouts that they look for a mesmer. "D
